Tantrum Decrease!
My friend Lonie and I were talking about a show she watched on parenting and how to deal with tantrums. The show suggested when the child decides to start throwing one, to simply ignore them and walk away (which I have always done). Young children can't distinguish the difference between negative and positive attention...it's just attention and that's what fuels the tantrum. Don't start talking to the child until they've calmed down enough to start talking nice to you! I've been adding a time out chair, and amazingly it's working out very well. When Kami starts to throw her fits, I immediately take her to the chair and leave. For the first little while, she'd sit there and kick and scream for a few minutes, then yell out "Mama, I'm done". After that, she'd get to come back to whatever she was doing. As the days have gone by, the tantrums have been significantly shorter and the number has lessened by quite a bit. There are some days when the tantrums are non-existent, and when they do happen, they are down to about 5 seconds or so (yes, I did say seconds). We do still have the occasional "big one", but even those don't last as long anymore. Live is much better and less stressful.
