Our holiday season was a full one. After I got back from Vegas, we had a Christmas party with the PJ play date group I hang out with every Friday. Everyone brought something to eat, we did secret Santa and Santa even came to visit. Kami has never liked Santa, so the picture below shows what she did when he arrived! I have to admit, I laughed!
We were able to take the kids sledding. Kami loved it...Brennan could have cared less! I haven't been sledding in a really long time, so it was fun to jump on the sled and ride down with Kami. She is definitely fearless, the hill was quite steep and she went all by herself...screaming and laughing all the way down. My parents got her a pair of skis that strap on your boots last year for Christmas, so we brought those and she tried them out. God bless the people that actually teach the youngsters to ski...all I got was a wet noodle! I can't wait until she starts ski school!
Before we left for Iowa for Christmas, we took the kids to get their first professional hair cuts...mainly because I botched Brennan's hair (I trimmed it a little too short, and a little too crooked). Both kids sat still and did a great job. Kami got some soft layers...which help with her tangles and frizziness, and Brennan's hair got much shorter (he really needed a hair cut).
For Christmas this year, we went to Iowa to visit Pat's family. We made it before the storm and left after it was over. The Midwest definitely has weird weather. It rained then froze...my doors froze shut and there was a nice layer of ice on all windows (we didn't make it to church for fear of either slipping off the road or not being able to get the doors open). We had some thunder and some blowing snow! Talk about crazy, but I was able to have a white Christmas complete with snow falling from the sky! The cousins had a great time playing! My good friends Dana and Ethan had their first baby two days before we arrived, so we were able to go and visit them and see beautiful Miss Evelyn! I wanted to steal her and take her home! My grandma moved back to Iowa, so when the weather cleared up we traveled two hours to visit her and my aunt. It was a great visit!
After we got home from Iowa, we had Christmas #2 with the gifts from my family! Kami couldn't believe we got to open more presents! She got a big girl bike...which she was super excited about! We just need a little bit more snow to melt, then we can go outside to ride. She did try it out in the kitchen and did a great job!
For New Year's, Pat brother and family came to visit (yes, we did see them for Christmas in Iowa). We had a great time. We went to the Denver Zoo for Zoo Lights with our friends, the Baete's, and then we spent a night in Estes Park...one of my most favorite places! Kami, Keely and Brennan got to play at the park and we saw a ton of elk and some big horn sheep. It was nice to be able to spend some time with them!
My New Year's Resolution...to finish the Mt. Evans Ascent in the 4.5 hour time limit. I signed up on Jan 1st, so I am committed. It's a road "race" starting at 10,000 ft traveling 14.5 miles uphill to the top of Mt. Evans at over 14,000 ft. If I complete the race, it will my second 14,000 ft mountain I've summited...although this one is definitely less technical than Mt. Rainier!
