We are back from our anniversary/baby-moon trip, and we had a great time. It was a lot of driving, so we were pretty tired by the time we got done. I grew up around Yellowstone and the Tetons, so it was like going home for me (and it had been awhile since I've been to either park). We spent the first day driving around Yellowstone and seeing the sights. We were able to hike/walk to a natural bridge, eat lunch while looking at buffalo grazing in front of Yellowstone Lake, check out some mud pots and geysers along the road and check out Old Faithful. We had just missed it erupt and it would be another 50 minutes or so before it was to erupt again, so we decided against waiting. It was already 5:30 pm by then, and we were wanting to get settled in our room and still had to drive another 1 1/2 hours. So we left and headed towards Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park.
We arrived at the lodge at around 7 pm. Upon checking in, I was informed of a power outage. There happened to be a storm in Idaho, which coincidentally supplies all the power from Jackson to Yellowstone, so no one had power. The main lodge had its generator going, but the cabins (where we were staying) had no power at all. So we hustled to our cabin to check it out before it got too dark, then headed back to the main lodge to eat dinner and hang out for awhile...with everybody else. We managed to find a flashlight to buy and some water, then headed back to the cabin to play cards with our new flashlight. Luckily, the power came back on about 5 minutes after we returned. Crazy enough, we were looking forward to playing cards in the dark.
The next day was spent driving around the Tetons. It had been raining the night before, so it was foggy and overcast, and quite cool (which I was excited about). We did a little walking, but we mostly drove (we were worn out from all the walking we had done the day before). The animals were out in full force. We were able to eat breakfast while looking at some elk out the window. We also saw a moose, a deer, more buffalo and Pat finally got to see his grizzly bear. We took pictures, but all you can see is a brown dot. On the way back to my parents house, we even got to see snow. That was one of the best parts of the trip for me.
Kami had a great time with Nana (Papa was hunting) and Nana had a great time with Kami. My grandma and uncle were even able to come for the day to see her. All in all, it was a great trip. Don't forget to check out the next entry...it's the one with the pictures.
